National artist, Buddhist scholar dies at 91

Renowned national artist Wasin Inthasa, author of Ananda the Buddha's Brother, acclaimed by Unesco as aglobal Buddhist literary masterpiece, passed away at 91 yesterday.

The country mourns the loss of the National Artist in Literature (2023), who passed away peacefully at the Police General Hospital yesterday morning.

Wasin, born on Sept 17, 1934, in Songkhla province, was ordained as a novice monk in 1947 and later as a Buddhist monk in 1954 before leaving the monkhood in 1964.
