Minister dismisses concerns about BoT chief nomination
Bangkok Post
|July 16, 2025
Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira has stated that the nomination of a suitable candidate for the position of governor of the Bank of Thailand will be submitted for cabinet approval next week, dismissing concerns about any issues surrounding the nomination process.
Mr Pichai insisted he would definitely propose the name of the person to be appointed as the new central bank governor in next week's cabinet meeting for cabinet approval.
He said the reason he was unable to submit the nomination of the candidate for cabinet approval yesterday was because he had forwarded the agenda to the cabinet secretary too late, causing it to be placed in a queue behind other scheduled agenda items.
"As the Bank of Thailand governor is an important position and I was a bit late, the cabinet needed time to carefully review it. That's why it hasn’t been included yet. But I confirm — it will definitely be submitted next week," said Mr Pichai.
When asked whether the list to be submitted next week would remain unchanged, he replied that the documents being proposed to the cabinet are still the same set.
When asked whether the delay was due to attempts to block the nomination of a specific candidate, Mr Pichai dismissed the notion, saying there was no such issue as he had already made his decision based on his own judgement.
