EC insists poll was secure

The Election Commission (EC) insists the 2026 general election was carried out as a direct and secret ballot, in line with constitutional principles, amid concerns the security features on the ballot papers might violate the nation's election laws.
It was responding to concerns regarding the inclusion of barcodes and QR codes on ballot papers.
In a statement yesterday, the poll agency sought to allay concerns that the barcodes and QR codes on the ballot papers could be accessed by third parties, compromising voter privacy.
The agency said it had implemented safeguards at every stage of the election process to ensure voter confidentiality.
The EC said the 2017 constitution explicitly requires voting to be conducted directly and secretly, to ensure that each voter can cast their vote without interference.
