Direct flights to America back on radar

Kingdom aims to be regional travel hub

Thailand will accelerate its efforts to establish direct flights between Thailand and the United States as part of the government's strategic goal to position the country as an aviation hub for Southeast Asia, says Transport Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit.

Following the country's reinstatement to FAA Category 1 status by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Mr Suriya has asked the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) to engage with key US agencies — including the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and the FAA — to enable the launch of direct air routes.

This is expected to boost the economic, trade, investment, and tourism sectors, and enhance global confidence in the country's aviation standards.

"This policy is part of a broader effort to upgrade the Thai aviation industry and stimulate national economic growth. It reflects our readiness to re-enter the global stage," said Mr Suriya.
