Call for more help for flooding victims

The Employers’ Confederation of Thai Trade and Industry (EconThai) has called on the government to introduce additional measures to restore businesses and households in flood-hit southern provinces, warning that existing financial relief alone will not be sufficient.

Tanit Sorat, vice-chairman of EconThai, said the private sector hopes the government will work with financial institutions, including commercial banks and leasing firms, to provide more soft loans.

“We are concerned that businesses in Songkhla’s Hat Yai district will be halted after the flood. Many people lost their jobs, cars, houses — everything.” he said.
