By-election win ‘proof’ of public trust in Pheu Thai

Veteran Pheu Thai politician Phumtham Wechayachai said Pheu Thai's victory in the by-election in Chiang Rai’s Constituency 7 showed the public still trusted the party despite its ouster from the ruling coalition.
The by-election, held on Sunday, saw Pheu Thai candidate Sanga Prommuang win decisively with 45,615 votes, more than double that of the second-place candidate, Suthat Yala from the People’s Party, who received 19,862 votes.
Out of 133,960 eligible voters, 79,288 people cast their votes, a voter turnout rate of 59.19%.
A notable 13.54% of ballots were cast as “no vote.” The Election Commission (EC) expects to certify the results within 60 days.
