Anutin seeks accord to tackle floods
Bangkok Post
|September 28, 2025
>>>Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul yesterday reaffirmed the government's commitment to long-term water management solutions and cross-party cooperation during his visit to the flood-affected areas of Ayutthaya.
He acknowledged the province faced chronic flooding as it is a low-lying area receiving runoff from the upper Chao Phraya River, with narrower river channels and water pressure against its flood walls contributing to its current state of inundation.
The Bang Ban-Bang Sai drainage canal, scheduled to be completed by next year, would be accelerated to ease repeated flooding, he said on a site visit yesterday.
Designed to carry 1,200 cubic metres of water per second, the project, along with broader improvements in irrigation infrastructure, would prevent recurring flooding and safeguard community livelihoods, Mr Anutin said.
