Academic out of line

A Facebook post by a well-known academic who ostracised a maverick politician believed to be Ratchanok Srinok, a firebrand former MP of the progressive People's Party, is causing an uproar.

In a post last week, Arnond Sakworawich, who teaches statistics at the National Institute of Development Administration (Nida), refrained from using names.

Instead, he referred to the individual's parents' "indecent" profession, giving the impression the story was something of a skeleton in the closet for the individual. His post has since backfired.

Those who know Ms Ratchanok are well aware that she is open about her family background and how she was raised.

In fact, she mentioned it herself several months ago in a talk show, recalling her childhood hardships and how she survived the difficulties she faced.

She insisted, however, that her parents did not have indecent careers, as suggested by Mr Arnond's post.
