Costly scheme sees politicians trade blows
A war of words has broken out between Ayr SNP MSP Siobhian Brown and South Ayrshire Council's Conservative Leader, Martin Dowey, over the introduction of thearea’s controversial ‘talking bins!
‘The paid are engaged in a feud this week over precisely who sanctioned the near £500,000 scheme.
The Post previously told how a petition had been organised in a bid to stop South Ayrshire Council bosses buying more of the “vanity project” talking bins.
More than £400,000 has been spent by the council installing 80 talking bins - also known as solar compaction bins - on promenades throughout the area.
Each bin costs £5,300. ‘They were installed as part of a project to enhance promenades. Their brief is to ensure ‘ease of use’ for residents and visitors while still being ‘vermin and bird proof?
Ayr, Prestwick and Troon MSP, Ms Brown, previously called out the council for the “vanity project” which she also said felt “wasteful.”
