Man 'lucky not to be facing murder charge'

A clubber who attacked another man at closing time has been jailed for 21 months.

Josh Preston was told that he was lucky not to be facing a murder charge.

Airdrie Sheriff Court heard that the victim was stamped repeatedly on the head as he lay on the ground in the town's Graham Street.

Preston, 21, of Kirkshaws Road, Coatbridge, admitted that, while acting with others, he assaulted the victim to his injury, permanent disfigurement and the danger of his life.

It happened on June 23 last year. Preston also admitted resisting arrest, spitting at one police officer and hurling abuse at another.

Annette Ward, prosecuting, said a fight broke out as patrons were leaving a nightclub around 3am.
