Uruguay keen to give Scots a test
The Rugby Paper
|June 30, 2024
AFTER thrilling Glasgow's URC triumph, many Scotland fans would love to see their side test themselves against one of the southern hemisphere powerhouses in the coming weeks.
When compared to the schedules of the other home nations, Scotland's four-Test tour of the Americas seems rather modest.
However, with three years to go until the World Cup, it could well turn out to be a stroke of genius.
Scotland's tour will see them face Canada, the USA, Chile, and Uruguay on four consecutive weekends in July, making them the only home nation not to face the same side multiple times. Head coach Gregor Townsend will be given the chance to observe his players outside their comfort zone and learn which of them can respond to the challenge of playing in four countries in as many weeks.
Townsend has elected to twist when it comes to selection, with 10 uncapped players in his 37man squad. Established stars such as Finn Russell, Richie Gray, and Zander Fagerson have been told to put their feet up while the young guns take centre stage. Granted, this may lessen the appeal for some fans, but it is a luxury some of Townsend's peers would secretly long to have.
