Hunter wants World Cup to build legacy

FORMER England captain Sarah Hunter believes the side can build a legacy beyond its success on the pitch. England, who have won the last five Six Nations titles, will host next year’s Women’s Rugby World Cup, seeking revenge for their losses in the last two finals.

The 2025 edition will take place across eight venues in England and Hunter thinks this can help them grow the game more than ever before.

Hunter told The Rugby Paper: “All the World Cup’s we’ve been to before have been in one or two cities. However, World Rugby has seen that how we’re going to grow the game across this country is to take it to different regions.

“There’s no good in one area of the country becoming a hotbed, we need to develop the grassroots community across the country and hopefully by doing that, you can see a bigger more exciting World Cup.”

Hunter, who captained England to the 2014 World Cup title, also hopes the competition can grow the game globally, not just in England.
