LATICS TICKING UNDER THOMMO

STEVE THOMPSON says he wants the chance to create a legacy at Oldham Athletic – and take the Latics back into the Football League.

Caretaker chief Thompson took over the manager’s hotseat from David Unsworth earlier this month and has since changed the landscape at Boundary Park, leading his side to three successive victories before yesterday’s trip to Wealdstone.

It’s a run of form which has not only lifted the Latics to the cusp of the play-off place but has also raised spirits among the faithfuls with over 500 travelling supporters in full voice during Tuesday night’s 2-1 win at Kidderminster Harriers.

Thompson, 58, was born in Oldham and watched both his father and grandfather turn out in the famous blue and white before forging his own career and going on to make over 600 Football League appearances, mostly for Lancashire rivals Bolton Wanderers.
