NEW AFC Sudbury manager Marc Abbott admits there will be ‘mountains to climb’ in the coming campaign but is confident he can build a team to scale them

ABBOTT'S KEEN TO MAKE MARC

The Yellows claimed promotion last term by winning the Isthmian North play-offs following a runners-up finish, but it hasn’t been an easy summer.

Manager Rick Andrews quit earlier this month after claiming his budget would be cut by more than 40 per cent and it has been reported that 13 players have left the club, including 49-goal striker Nnamdi Nwachuku and skipper Reece Harris.

It’s not ideal as the Suffolk club gear up for a crack at Southern Premier Central, but that didn’t stop Abbott putting his hand up to take charge.

The 37-year-old works as Cambridge United’s elite scholarship manager in his day job and has previous managerial experience with Haverhill Rovers and St Neots Town. At Saints, Abbott managed in the Southern Premier Central.

He told The NLP: “I’m really excited and my first impressions are based on the professionalism of the club and the values that they hold.

“With the club going into a new league that not many supporters have been to, there’s an excitement there.
