Women homebuyers today are more independent, decisive and investment-savvy than ever.
In celebration of Women’s Day, it’s important to recognise the growing influence of women in real estate. Women have long played a crucial role in homebuying decisions, but today, they are emerging as independent decision-makers, driven by professional success and financial independence.
With Indian women comprising 37% of the workforce, their economic independence is reshaping property ownership trends, notes Jasna Bedi, CMO, BCD Group. "Real estate offers a safe, appreciating asset and a superior alternative to gold or stocks," she adds.
According to one of the leading realty marketplaces, the share of women buyers on their platform increased by 16% between 2020 and 2023. "In cities like Chennai, Thane and Bengaluru, nearly 35% of homebuyers are women, reflecting a growing inclination towards property ownership," informs Harpreet Gulati, founder & CEO, Property Gallery.
Shalin Raina, MD, residential services, Cushman & Wakefield, observes that women are not only influencing home purchases but also approaching real estate as a strategic investment. With growing financial autonomy, they are evaluating market trends, returns, and long-term value more critically than ever. "Women have always been key in joint homebuying decisions, but now they are taking the lead, ensuring property choices align with both lifestyle and investment goals," he adds.
