THE UTOPIA STRONG

Steve Davis and Kavus Torabi are already at the venue amiably chatting to fans when Prog arrives at The Piper on a sweltering Sunday evening, offering a smile, a shrug and a genial, "We don't know, we think they might be running a bit late..." when we ask what time they're due onstage. So far, so informal. And, as we'll find out, it's entirely in keeping with what pans out as an esoteric and enjoyable night's entertainment.

When they do adopt their stage stations, for want of a better word, six-times World Snooker Champion Davis, a pair of headphones perched a little precariously on his head, will sit down at something that looks like a young Keith Emerson might have created had he been given one of those electronic kits for kids as a Christmas present. It's a fascinating contraption full of wires and screens that will form the bedrock of much of the exhilarating sounds that we hear tonight.
