Shubigi Rao (SR): Constructed families and non-familial ties seem to form the bedrock of the relationships in your films. Can this liberate us from the overemphasis on nuclear families, and broaden our understanding of kin and community outside state policies?

Anthony Chen (AC): In my view, cinema has always been about emotional truth instead of ideological debate. While the nuclear family is a reality for many, it can also be a source of immense pressure, loneliness, and unspoken tension.
