KATHLEEN FOLBIGG'S FRIENDSHIP FALL OUT

Kathleen Folbigg's story has long been defined by tragedy, controversy and, ultimately, freedom. But at its heart was something else - a friendship that helped change the course of her life.

Kathleen was once just a mum in Newcastle, raising four children: Caleb, Patrick, Sarah and Laura. Between 1989 and 1999, each of her babies died suddenly, all before the age of two.

In 2003, she was convicted of murder and sentenced to 30 years in prison. Public opinion turned quickly. Kathleen's diaries became key evidence against her, bolstered by the testimony of her own husband and foster sister, who spoke out against her during the trial.

imageBut one person refused to accept that narrative. Her childhood friend, Tracy Chapman, reached out. Though they hadn’t spoken in years, Tracy was troubled by what she saw and wrote to Kathleen in prison.
