JUSTICE GONE WRONG

A 12-YEAR FIGHT FOR FREEDOM.

Andrew Mallard was looking forward to marrying his American fiancée when he was killed in April 2019, in a hit-and-run accident.

It was a tragic end to a life half-lived, due to Andrew, 56, spending 12 years in jail for a crime he did not commit.

In 1995, Andrew, from Perth, was convicted of murdering local store owner, Pamela Lawrence. "I am an innocent man ... you have not heard the last of this," he told the Supreme Court as he began his life sentence.

imageAndrew testified that he was coerced by detectives during his police interview. In 2002, new forensic pathology results showed Pamela's fatal wounds could not have been caused by the wrench police had alleged Andrew used to kill her. Four years later, Andrew's conviction was quashed and he finally walked free.

image"I want to be like everybody else. I want to have a wife and a family," he said as he was freed.

imageBritish backpacker Simon Rochford was later identified as Pamela's likely killer.
