Pulsar mania, Panigales, and the EV revolution—inside India's high-octane motorcycle market
ULTRAVIOLETTE
Bengaluru-based Ultraviolette Automotive has kicked off the year with a bold move, unveiling the Tesseract electric scooter and the Shockwave ADV at introductory prices of Rs 1.20 lakh and Rs 1.50 lakh, respectively. The company has had an eventful few years, with net losses surging to Rs 61.58 Cr in FY24, as per reports, largely due to expansion-related expenses. However, revenue jumped 74 per cent, rising from Rs 8.67 Cr to Rs 15.08 Cr, as per reports, signalling growth despite financial pressures.
Backed by TVS Motor, Qualcomm, Zoho, and actor Dulquer Salmaan, Ultraviolette remains focused on a niche electric motorcycle segment. Meanwhile, Indian buyers still seem hesitant about electric scooters, where adoption hovers around 13-14 per cent of the overall twowheeler market. The segment is currently dominated by Bajaj Auto, Ola Electric, TVS Motor, and Ather Energy. However, with the Shockwave and Tesseract, Ultraviolette might just turn the tide in its favour.
