Cinnamon sugar cookies, a simple yet delicious recipe that has become part of the writer's holiday celebrations.

The smell of cinnamon and sugar fills the air as the oven timer dings. Pulling out trays of freshly baked cookies, I watch as my kids' faces light up. The delicious holiday cookies I make each year are a family favorite, and I've been baking this recipe since I was a young girl.

I vividly recall the yellowed piece of lined paper housed in my mom's red Betty Crocker Cookbook. It had the ingredients for my grandma's pie crust. I would use that recipe to make my favorite holiday treat - cinnamon sugar cookies. I love these cookies even more than chocolate chip. (Crazy, I know!)

My grandma created these cookies as a way to use up leftover pie dough when she was making her delicious apple pies. She'd roll out the leftover dough, spread it with butter, sugar, and cinnamon (in that order), then cut it into strips and roll them up. It's a simple yet delicious recipe that has become part of our holiday celebrations.
