Being financially happy is easy. Wanting to be financially happier is difficult
My recent announcement of early retirement at 55 caught some attention. Here was a Mutual Fund CEO who had outsourced his portfolio management to a financial advisor and was sticking to a plan. Many saw it as validation of an advisor-led, plan-driven approach. Rightly so. Having a competent, trusted advisor build a financial plan allowed my family to work toward our goals, while I focused on building the PGIM India brand with my colleagues.
One aspect that is important and perhaps seldom mentioned or acknowledged when you read about financial success stories is the role of luck and timing. Not just the privilege of where one was born or having a roof over one's head and a good education. In my case, starting my career post-1991 reforms created opportunities. Joining a private mutual fund early helped early progression. A dual-income household gave me flexibility in career as well as in increasing savings. Having a vantage point that exposed me to the benefits of a structured financial planning process early in my career.
Since joining in 2017—when it was DHFL Pramerica, largely a fixed income franchise—I began as Chief Business Officer. I became CEO during the 2018 debt market crisis, India’s own “mini Lehman” moment. We lost 80% of our AUM. Then came a brand reboot in 2019 as PGIM, only to face the Covid lockdowns soon after. Through those tough years, we made hard choices and followed a transparent, value-driven strategy. We rebuilt trust with partners and clients.

Diversification Made Simple: Multi-Asset Allocation Funds and Why UTI's Fund Stands Out
In today's uncertain economic landscape, shaped by fluctuating interest rates, geopolitical uncertainties, and volatile equities, investors seek strategies that balance growth with stability. Multi-asset allocation mutual funds offer a practical solution, providing diversified exposure to equities, debt, commodities like gold, and alternative investments such as REITs or InvITs through a single portfolio. By doing so, they aim to deliver more stable, risk-adjusted returns over the long term, making them increasingly popular. The appeal of this category is evident: assets under management have surged from just ₹10,612 crore in March 2020 to ₹1.42 lakh crore as of August 2025.

All That Glitters, Is Now Gold!
17th September was very important for Gold. Why? It was the Fed policy, that gave markets exactly what they wanted. Markets had already priced in 25bps of rate cuts from the Fed and this probably explained why both US equity markets and Gold barely witnessed a reaction post a dovish Fed policy. The Fed policy indicated two more rate cuts for 2025 and four more into 2026. And this, for now, tells us that Gold has probably entered its fifth phase of price appreciation. However, one must remember that macros are very dynamic, and markets are constantly reevaluating their thesis with every macro data release. Therefore, any change in the Fed views or any strong risk-on moves in equities could, over the course, have some moderating impact on gold appreciation.

RBI Holds Rates, Unleashes Reforms To Unlock Credit And Growth
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has kept the repo rate unchanged at 5.5% following its three-day Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting chaired by Governor Sanjay Malhotra. While the decision to maintain the status quo on interest rates reflects a cautious approach amid evolving inflation dynamics, the real headline lies in a series of structural and credit-related reforms aimed at making India's financial ecosystem more agile and growth-friendly. In an effort to boost exports and simplify foreign exchange processes, the RBI has extended the repatriation period for foreign currency held in IFSC units from one month to three months and lengthened the payment window for merchanting trade from four to six months.
