TRADITIONAL DETAILS HARMONIZE WITH MODERN NOTES IN A NEW SOUTH FLORIDA HOME

When it comes to architecture, it seems almost everyone in Miami believes in modern love. But the city's chorus of clean-lined, contemporary design felt a bit discordant for one couple as they prepared to build a new home.

They scrolled Instagram in search of a design mix master someone who could create rooms rooted in old-world classicism yet comfortable in a modern Miami neighborhood and found their match in Bria Hammel and Katie Pieper of Minneapolis-based Bria Hammel Interiors.

"While much of the architecture in Miami is modern, that's not who these clients are," Pieper says. "They're more traditional. They love to travel in Italy, and they appreciate the history you see in design there. Our goal was to give them classic details in a home with modern edge." A clay-tile roof and stucco exterior set the Mediterranean mood, which Hammel and Pieper reinforced with arched details above many of the home's French doors and windows, all framed in contemporary black steel.
