This modern residence sits proudly on its site in a whisper-quiet urban location. It integrates nature into its form. Ground-floor openings serve to connect to leafy courtyards, and the upper level has extended views of the greenspace beyond in the adjoining nature reserve.

When a project stands the test of time, that’s a true measure of its success. This family of six love their home, even more than they did when they moved in eight years ago.

Architect Patrick Gheorghiu says the homeowners’ brief was to take inspiration from Japanese architecture. “The design draws on traditional Japanese architectural philosophies that emphasise simplicity, harmony, and a strong connection to nature,” notes Patrick.

It achieves a beautiful sense of serenity. says Patrick. “This was achieved through the careful use of natural materials, defined outdoor spaces, and a strong emphasis on landscape integration.”

In the original home, the family were crammed into a three-bedroom, one-bathroom weatherboard cottage on a sloping site. When thinking about the renovation, the owners envisioned a comfortable home that would support their lifestyle as it changed and evolved with their growing family.
