OUR TOP PLOTTERS

EMMA ROGERS FROM DERBYSHIRE

Emma has found growing her own a great escape from sitting behind a computer all day at work. It has helped her get in touch with nature and also to meet new people

Do you have an allotment or garden plot?

One full size allotment plot and a half plot allotment. I also have some small veg beds in our new build garden.

My fiancé Sam and I tend the plots together.

Do you grow any veg in containers?

I grow potatoes in potato bags filled with compost. It has advantages, as they can be put in the greenhouse if there is a frost, but the potatoes have been small. I have also grown carrots in an old bathtub. It was a great success and avoided carrot root fly!

Leggy seedlings

Warmth, low light and a bit too much kindness can all lead to leggy seedlings at this time of year. They stretch, weaken and topple just when you want them to be building strength. The good news is they're rarely a lost cause – and a few simple adjustments will get them back on track
