Gabrielle Chanel's favourite flower is more than just a pretty blossom.
As I walked through the gates of Chanel's Open-Sky Laboratory nestled in the picturesque village of Gaujacq, the Landes region's serene beauty is immediately striking for a city girl like myself. This southwestern corner of France, known for its lush landscapes and rich history in botany, is home to a facility that merges a love for nature, art for cultivation and advanced botanical experimentation.
Upon my arrival, the tranquility of the place struck me the morning light filtered through the windows cast dappled light akin to an Auguste Renoir painting. We are here to tour the facility dedicated to the study of Mademoiselle Chanel's favourite flower the camellia, and to meet the custodians who harness its powers.
