LOUVRE ADMITS SECURITY ISSUES

THE lightning-fast robbery at the Louvre that saw thieves make off with eight priceless pieces of France's Crown Jewels worth an estimated €88 million (R1,76 billion) in under four minutes has highlighted security issues at the world-famous museum.

The crew struck early on the morning of Sunday 19 October using a truck-mounted lift to reach an exterior balcony of the museum's famed Galerie d'Apollon – home to the emerald and sapphire-studded diadems, necklaces and brooches once worn by the wives of Napoleon Bonaparte and 19th-century royals.
