The power of MUSIC

Music history was made on Saturday 13 July 1985 when two star-spangled concerts simultaneously took place in the UK and America to raise money for famine relief in Ethiopia. Having brought together some of the biggest names in pop and rock to form supergroup Band Aid for charity single Do They Know It's Christmas? the previous year, The Boomtown Rats frontman Bob Geldof and singer-songwriter Midge Ure continued their undraising initiative with landmark event Live Aid.

Now, new three-part BBC2 series Live Aid at 40 looks at how the extravaganza, which saw more than 70 acts performing over 16 hours of music, came to fruition at London's Wembley Stadium and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, as well as exploring its legacy.
