KELVIN and LIZ FLETCHER talk to TV Times about moving forward after facing adversity on their farm
-
Now four years into running their bustling Peak District homestead, Kelvin and Liz Fletcher are no strangers to navigating unforeseen challenges. But the lovely couple have some sad news to share when they join TV Times for an exclusive interview ahead of the return of their ITV1 fly-on-the-barn-wall docuseries Fletchers' Family Farm.
Last winter, before filming began on the third run of the show, a devastating fire broke out in the boiler room of their beloved 18th-century farmhouse.
'It is everybody's worst nightmare, isn't it?' says Kelvin, who shares daughter Marnie, nine, son Milo, six, and three-year-old twin boys Mateusz and Maximus with Liz.
'We were on holiday when it happened so we weren't there, which is a blessing. The animals were OK, but the extent of the smoke damage resulted in us living away from the farm for a while. It's been tough, but things could have been much worse.'
If we have learnt anything from the down-to-earth actors since they began their agricultural adventures, it's that they are always resilient, upbeat and united. As the new 10-part outing gets underway this week, we find them busy preparing for lambing season and planning for the future.
Here, Kelvin, 41, and Liz, 42, tell us more...
We're very sorry to hear about the fire at your home.
KELVIN Thank you. It has been upsetting, but you have to pick yourself up and carry on. That has been our whole attitude, really. We're featuring it in the show because it's part of our lives. The main thing is, we're OK and are now looking forward to rebuilding our home.
