When Bronagh Waugh joins TV Times for an exclusive chat, you can hear the excitement in her voice as she talks about her role as DI Carol Farman in ITVI's detective drama Ridley.

The first season, which aired in 2022, saw her dedicated cop be instrumental in luring her troubled former mentor, Alex Ridley (played by Adrian Dunbar), out of retirement to serve as a police consultant to help solve murky mysteries in the north of England.

Now, in the latest four-part run, which began last week, Carol teams up again with Alex to crack another collection of cases, with this Sunday's episode revolving around a complex missingperson investigation.

'What I love about this second series is that it's faster paced,' smiles Coleraine-born Bronagh, 42, who got her big break playing bubbly Cheryl Brady in soap Hollyoaks from 2008 to 2013 before going on to star alongside Jamie Dornan in hit BBC2 thriller The Fall between 2013 and 2016. "There's a real energy to it.'
