Sink your teeth into Steven Spielberg's hit movie as Jaws celebrates its 50th anniversary

SHARK ATTACK!

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, Steven Spielberg's 1975 shark thriller Jaws is back to terrify us again - as the hit movie turns 50.

Released on 20 June 1975 (the UK release came six months later), the film helped launch the career of director Spielberg, became the first summer blockbuster, and was the highest-grossing movie ever made until Star Wars took the crown in 1977.

With its iconic 'da-dum...da-dum...' score by John Williams and based on the bestselling novel by Peter Benchley, Jaws is celebrated this week in a new documentary, Jaws @ 50: The Definitive Inside Story, which features a surprisingly candid interview with Spielberg.

Using home-movie footage and photos from his personal archive, he reflects on how shooting on the ocean, frustrating technical issues with the mechanical shark, and tensions between lead actors Richard Dreyfuss and Robert Shaw meant the film went wildly over schedule and over budget - and even threatened to end his career before it had barely begun.
