Tate McRae: Teen Dance Prodigy to Pop Star!

Three years after breaking out with “You Broke Me First,” Calgary, Alta., native Tate McRae, 20, is one of pop’s most exciting rising acts— and she’s got the hits (“Greedy,” off her new album Think Later, went Top 10 on Billboard Hot 100) and dance moves (she was a finalist on So You Think You Can Dance in 2016) to back it up.

Before music, you were a competitive dancer. Do you think about choreography when you’re writing in the studio? 

I definitely have been trying to find beats that make me want to move. For the first time in my life, I’m able to put the two sides of my identity together, and it’s so satisfying.
