She was once recognised by Forbes magazine as the world’s youngest self-made female billionaire. But since turning herself in to a minimum-security women’s prison camp in Texas almost two years ago after being sentenced to 11 years on fraud and conspiracy charges, Elizabeth Holmes, the infamous founder of sham blood-testing technology start-up Theranos, has earnt 47 cents an hour as a re-entry clerk, helping fellow inmates prepare for life outside.

Even with her sentence reduced for good behaviour, Holmes, 41, isn’t due for release until 2032, but she’s planning for postprison life, intending to champion prison reform and return to medical research.

“There is not a day I have not continued to work on my research and inventions,” she said in an interview with
