The Wild Ride From 'Bad Kid' to Breakout Star
Us Weekly
|October 27, 2025
Lukas Gage came up with the tongue-in-cheek title of his memoir, I Wrote This for Attention, before even putting pen to paper. “If an actor is gonna write a book, there is no other option but to just put it right out there,” Gage, 30, tells Us. And that he does. In the tell-all (out now), Gage chronicles his troubled upbringing and rise to fame in shows like Euphoria, The White Lotus and You with refreshing candor. “I didn’t want to make myself the victim or this heroic, perfect person,” he explains. “I’m really flawed. I’m still figuring it out.” Here, Gage tries to make sense of it all.

The actor hopes people will "put the phone down for a bit" to check out his unapologetic new memoir.
Why did you decide to write this book?
As a kid, I wrote in my journals that I was gonna write a book. When the [2023 writers'] strike happened, I didn't know what to do with myself, so writing the book felt like the only option.
Was it hard to bring up old emotions?
Yeah. I had a lot of empathy for that younger, impulsive, reckless kid. I feel very grateful that I had time to dig into myself.
You call yourself a pathological liar. Do you feel like you've overcome that?
