Hero churchgoer stops shooter during services

A COURAGEOUS Detroit-area congregant stopped an active gunman in his tracks — and saved untold innocent lives by blowing the bad guy away as the creep pumped bullets into a Michigan church!

Jay Trombley, a 57-year-old trucker, says he was listening to the June 22 Sunday service at CrossPointe Community Church in Wayne with some 150 others — including dozens of children — when Brian Anthony Browning, 31, from nearby Romulus, began firing an AR-15 rifle at the building.

“I heard a noise, thought it was mechanical at first, turned to see people running, asked them through a door what had happened,” he recalls. “A young woman said, ‘AR-15,’ and I said, ‘Where?’ She pointed, and I headed in that direction.”

Outside, Browning — who had managed to haul himself back up after a quick-thinking deacon rammed him with a Ford F-150 pickup truck — was exchanging fire with two members of the church’s security team, wounding one of them in the leg. The church had wisely formed the team, which included Trombley, some 10 years earlier out of fear that someone like Browning might one day target them.

Trombley took cover in the church lobby as the maniac kept firing at him.

“God’s hand [protected] me in just the right spot,” Trombley avows.

He returned fire, mortally wounding his target.

“I know I took a man’s life, but I know that man was coming to take my life, the life of my family, and 80 children and many more people,” he says.
