WIRED FOR GROWTH
The Machinist
|June 2025
Driven by renewables, real estate, and rural electrification, India's wire and cable market is evolving into one of the most dynamic sectors in the infrastructure economy.
-
When we think of India's infrastructure story, it's the big things that capture attention—expressways, metro corridors, airports, and solar farms. But beneath these marvels lies a less visible but equally vital foundation: wires and cables. Whether it's lighting up remote villages, powering high-rise towers, or delivering broadband to the last mile, the wire and cable industry is powering India's development in silence.
And now, this industry is on the brink of a major leap.
According to Mordor Intelligence, the India wire and cable market is projected to grow from $21.22 billion in 2025 to $32.85 billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of 9.14% during the forecast period. That's not a marginal uptick—it's a surge rooted in fundamental shifts across sectors like energy, housing, digital infrastructure, and manufacturing.
THE ENERGY ENGINE
At the heart of this growth is India's rising electricity consumption. With a population of 1.4 billion and a growing appetite for energy, India is the third-largest producer and consumer of electricity globally. According to the Central Electricity Authority, the country recorded all-time high-power generation and demand levels in 2023, reflecting the expanding need for robust transmission and distribution infrastructure.
More rural homes are now connected to the grid than ever before, thanks to government-led initiatives such as Saubhagya and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana. These efforts continue to create significant demand for low-voltage distribution cables in underserved regions.
