Eni's New Offshore Campaign Signals Strategic Recommitment to Ghana's Energy Future
Offshore Africa
|June 2025
Italian energy major Eni has launched a new drilling campaign offshore Ghana, reaffirming its long-term commitment to the West African nation's energy sector. The move-centered on the Sankofa East 1X Side Track 2 well-comes amid renewed momentum in Ghana's upstream industry and signals Eni's intent to deepen its strategic footprint across the Gulf of Guinea.
-

The drilling operation, located some 60 nautical miles off Ghana's coast near the John Agyekum Kufuor FPSO, is part of the broader Offshore Cape Three Points (OCTP) integrated development. Eni, along with partners Vitol Upstream Ghana Ltd and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), is leveraging the Deep Value Driller (DVD), a state-of-the-art rig that recently concluded operations in Côte d'Ivoire. The high-specification drillship, equipped with advanced automated systems, underscores the technological sophistication underpinning Eni's operations in Ghana.
A Strategic Milestone for ОСТР
The launch of this sidetrack well reflects a deliberate pivot by Eni and its partners to maximize recovery from the OCTP block. The block, which comprises both oil and non-associated gas resources, is vital to Ghana's energy security, with gas supplies feeding domestic power plants under long-term arrangements.
