In German, a steiger is the foreman on a mine; someone who must ensure the safety of workers rising from the depths. In the same way, the new Case IH Steiger is the latest example of how agricultural mechanisation has risen from relatively humble beginnings to powerful innovation.

The rise of the big red machine

A must-visit at Nampo 2025 is the eye-catching outdoor showroom that is the Case IH stand. Brimming with the characteristic big, red agricultural machines, the display prompts only one question from visitors: “What new piece of agricultural wonderment is Case IH bringing this year?”

One distinct tractor is sure to make an impression: the Case IH Steiger 715 Quadtrac. It's officially the largest and most powerful tractor available to South African farmers today. With its enormous 533kW (715hp), 15,9ℓ FPT Industrial C16 TST engine, it has a peak power of 580kW (778hp), ensuring performance and productivity on farms working larger areas.

“The modern-day Steiger may be worlds apart from the original Steiger, which today is housed in the Bonanzaville museum in North Dakota [in the US], but the heritage of a tractor built to support the producer runs like a golden thread through the range,” says André Olwagen, product portfolio and tactical marketing manager at Case IH.
