March 2024

Finally, Singapore managed to have a sparkling air show that saw huge participation, exciting new equipment and an energy that had been missing in 2022. A special report.

OPTIMISM SOARS AS AVIATION INDUSTRY GATHERS FOR SINGAPORE AIR SHOW

The trade segment of the first fully post-pandemic Singapore Airshow witnessed record attendance, signalling a resurgence in optimism within the aviation industry. Despite challenges faced by suppliers in meeting the rebounding travel demand, exhibitors and delegates expressed confidence in the sector's recovery.

Close to 60,000 individuals participated in the four trade days of the event, marking a significant increase compared to the 2022 edition, which had seen attendance hampered by daily rapid COVID-19 tests for foreign visitors. This figure also surpassed the 54,000 attendees recorded in 2018. The 2020 edition of the airshow was also notably impacted by last-minute cancellations amid the global spread of the virus.

This year, OEMs showcased a wide variety of equipment including planes, drones, surveillance technology, services, and equipment within the air-conditioned exhibition area. The displays proved to be a magnet for both buyers and enthusiasts alike.

However, attendees braved the tropical heat to witness approximately an hour of aerial displays daily. The airshow captivated spectators with a stunning showcase of cutting-edge commercial and military aircraft, complemented by mesmerising aerobatic flying displays that commanded attention. Of particular note were the international flying teams, including the Indian Air Force's Sarang team, the Indonesian Air Force's Jupiter team, and the Republic of Korea Air Force's Black Eagles, each adding their distinctive style and skill to the skies above Singapore.
