On the Horizon

IN THE WAKE of a turbulent era for the aviation industry, a new wave of pioneers is revolutionizing aircraft cabin design. Amid great anticipation, the Crystal Cabin Awards 2023 has announced its winners. This prestigious competition recognizes groundbreaking concepts and products that enhance the passenger experience, connectivity, safety and sustainability.

Cabin Concepts

This year's winner is Air New Zealand's Skynest, a revolutionary reimagining of economy class. This creation features six sleep pods arranged in a bunk-bed configuration. Deployed on select Boeing 787-9s for nonstop flights between Auckland and New York-JFK or Chicago, these pods offer comfort for flights lasting up to 17 hours.

Diehl Aviation presents an integrated crew-rest compartment designed for single-aisle aircraft. Born from innovation, these rest areas transform existing cabin-crew jump seats into private enclosed spaces with rapidly foldable full-flat beds. Perfectly suited for the upcoming Airbus A321XLR, they cater to long-haul journeys of up to 11 hours.

Lufthansa introduced Allegris and its resplendent First Class Suite Plus. Featuring a double cabin with ceiling-high walls and a sliding door, this luxurious suite boasts a large table, wardrobe and two wide seats that can be converted into a double bed. Available across Lufthansa's premier long-haul planes, Allegris sets a new standard for first-class travel.
