Revving Up India's Logistics: Bridging the Technology Gap between Logistics and the Automobile Sector
Bisinfotech
|March 2025
India’s logistics and automobile sectors have long been the backbone of the country’s economy. With logistics contributing nearly 14% of India’s GDP and the automobile sector being one of the largest in the world, the synergy between the two industries is undeniable.
-

However, a significant technology gap persists, preventing them from achieving their full potential.
With digitization, IoT, AI-driven fleet management, and connected vehicles, the landscape is evolving rapidly. Yet, many challenges remain, from outdated infrastructure to a lack of seamless communication between logistics operations and automobile advancements.
The Current Landscape: Disconnected Yet Interdependent
The logistics sector in India is undergoing rapid transformation, with the government pushing initiatives such as Gati Shakti, PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, and National Logistics Policy (NLP) to streamline operations. Meanwhile, the automobile industry is moving towards electric mobility, connected vehicles, and advanced telematics. Despite these advancements, logistics and automobiles often operate in silos, leading to inefficiencies like:
• Unoptimized fleet management - Many fleets still lack real-time tracking, fuel management, and predictive maintenance, leading to downtime and increased operational costs.
• Poor last-mile connectivity - While India has a growing demand for e-commerce and rapid deliveries, inefficient route planning and manual intervention cause delays.
• Data silos and lack of integration - Logistics firms and automobile manufacturers rarely share telematics, driver behavior insights, and predictive analytics, leading to poor decision-making.
• High vehicle downtime - Many logistics operators suffer from poor fleet maintenance, leading to frequent breakdowns, longer transit times, and reduced efficiency.
Bridging the Gap: The Role of Technology
To overcome these inefficiencies, integrating cutting-edge technologies into both logistics and automobile sectors is crucial. Here's how:
