Automotive Automation 2.0: Haryana's Transition to Connected, Software-Defined Manufacturing
Bisinfotech
|December 2025
Haryana, often called the “Detroit of India’s North,” is once again at the center of a manufacturing revolution. From Gurugram’s iconic Maruti Suzuki plant to the industrial belts of Manesar, Bawal, and Faridabad, the state has been a cornerstone of India’s automotive success story for decades.
-
Today, however, Haryana’s factories are evolving from traditional assembly lines to connected, software-defined, and data-driven ecosystems — a transformation broadly known as Automotive Automation 2.0. This next chapter combines industrial IoT (IIoT), AI-powered robotics, and software orchestration to create flexible, intelligent, and self-optimizing factories.
From Mechanical Efficiency to Digital Intelligence
In the early 2000s, Haryana’s factories focused on mechanical efficiency — robotics arms, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and lean manufacturing. But in 2025, the game has shifted toward digital intelligence.
Software-defined manufacturing brings modularity and adaptability. According to a Deloitte India 2024 survey, over 42% of Indian automotive firms are now investing in digital twins, machine learning analytics, and IIoT sensors to drive real-time decision-making. Unlike rigid automation, these new systems can reprogram processes through software — enabling rapid model changes, customization, and predictive quality control.
Why Haryana Is Poised for Automation 2.0
Haryana’s strengths lie in its dense automotive ecosystem, infrastructure, and policy support.
- The state hosts over 1,200 auto and component manufacturers, accounting for approximately 60% of India’s passenger car production.
• Gurugram-Manesar-Bawal belt alone contributes nearly 30% of India's total automotive output.
• With proximity to Delhi NCR, the region benefits from a skilled workforce, robust logistics, and access to national highways like NH-48.
In 2024, the Haryana Enterprises and Employment Policy (HEEP) identified automation, robotics, and electronics as key investment priorities. The government aims to attract ₹2,000 crore in smart manufacturing projects by 2027, including automation testing centers and innovation hubs in Manesar and IMT Faridabad.
