WHY TESLA'S INDIA ENTRY IS DIFFERENT
BW Businessworld
|September 06, 2025
Tesla's advent in India is likely to energise the electric vehicle (EV) market, bringing global attention, advanced technology and global brand appeal to the country. Tesla's presence in the Indian market could accelerate EV adoption, influence policy shifts and raise the bar for homegrown automakers
AMERICAN ELECTRIC VEHICLE giant Tesla has already made its presence felt in India, opening two Experience Centres within weeks of each other. The first showroom launched in Mumbai's Bandra Kurla Complex on 15 July was followed by a second at New Delhi's Aerocity early in August 2025. But this isn't just another automaker's expansion story. What Elon Musk's company is rolling out in India is bigger, bolder and built for the long haul. Its strategy is clear: build the ecosystem first, sell the cars later.
The Aerocity opening also marked Delhi's first Tesla Charging Station, featuring four V4250 kWh Superchargers for ultra-fast charging and three 11 kWh AC Destination Chargers for slower top-ups. Bengaluru will be the next city to get a Supercharger and Tesla has already confirmed plans for a service centre, a Tesla approved collision centre, remote diagnostics, mobile service and a nationwide charging network.
By the time the first Tesla hits Indian roads in September 2025, the infrastructure to power and maintain it will already be in place.
