Why am I so anxious?
BW Businessworld
|May 31, 2025
Every second person seems to be dealing with some level of anxiety, and it is not surprising given the world we live in. The recent geopolitical tensions escalated this anxiety to a point where one found it hard to get through the day.
Think back to how many times you have heard someone in your professional network say they are feeling anxious. If you look at the mid-level and senior-level working population, you would find a significant percentage of people dealing with anxiety-related issues. Research shows that Gen X (people born between 1965-1979) are a stressed-out generation. At this time, Gen X would be anywhere between the ages of 46 to 60 years of age. Most of them have the responsibilities of caring for their ageing parents, children, home, and, to top it all, save enough for retirement.
One cannot blame them for being anxious - these people grew up in a world where there was a landline telephone, people still wrote letters, telegrams were the fastest mode of communication, every house had a radio, fewer households had cars, suddenly they have had to adapt quickly and to a lot - the internet, social media, and now artificial intelligence (AI). Today, there are homes where the Gen X mother and her child are both thinking of university degrees in AI because that is the direction of the world.
