IF YOU ARE already on short video platforms, and if you have had the good (or not so good) fortune to click on some shared links from any of the Gen Alpha or Gen Z's in your familial or social circle, chances are that your feed will soon begin suggesting several videos showing 'respect' for the 'Sigma'.

Like many things Greek, Sigma too holds a more popular meaning beyond its mathematical definition. According to several online sources, Sigma implies a 'self-sufficient, assertive, confident and independent' person. The meaning itself may be straightforward but on social platforms, it has come to mean a ‘man’, who by showing disrespect to a woman, is being ‘assertive’ and ‘non-conformist’, and hence ‘respected’. This even includes slapping a woman, but of course, as a response to more aggressive behaviour from the woman in question.
