Why pay the full price when used clothes are just as trendy and cheaper; time to make it a mission statement

- Krishan Kalra

RISE OF THRIFTED CLOTHES

ACCORDING TO A recent Bloomberg report, globally people spent a robust $227 billion on used (aka previously loved or pre-owned) clothes, shoes and accessories which was nearly 15 per cent more than in the previous year and almost 10 per cent of the total spending on clothes. The fact that the trend is being driven by youngsters is great news - because they are the ones who drive all fashion trends.

Experts expect the figure to rise to $250 billion in 2025 and $300 billion in 2026. If the trend continues, in a few years we can expect 'used clothes' to constitute half of the total spend. These clothes are fashionable, many from big brands and at prices half or one third of the new ones. It is a win-win for both; fashionistas who wouldn't want to be seen again in the clothes worn once or twice and the aspirant young people who can acquire big labels at affordable prices.
