India's AI healthcare market is experiencing explosive growth, projected to reach US$ 1.6 billion by 2025
-
THE year 2024 saw growth for India's healthcare landscape, marked by increased government investment and an emphasis on technological advancements. The Union Budget 2024-25 allocated a substantial Rs 90,958 crore to the Health Ministry, a significant increase over the previous year. This investment paved the way for crucial initiatives aimed at enhancing accessibility and quality of care across the nation.
Expanding Healthcare Initiatives
A cornerstone of this commitment was the substantial increase in funding for the Pradhan Mantri Jan Aro-gya Yojana (PM-JAY), from Rs 6,800 crore to Rs 7,300 crore. Prime Minister Narendra Modi aptly highlighted this as a testament to India's dedication to providing accessible and affordable healthcare to all. Further bolstering healthcare access, the National Health Mission received a significant budget boost, rising from Rs 31,550.87 crore to Rs 36,000 crore.
This increased government investment coincided with a surge in technological advancements within the healthcare sector. Telemedicine emerged as a powerful force, with projections suggesting the market would reach US$ 5.4 billion by 2025. This rapid growth of telemedicine aligned perfectly with the government's growing focus on mental health. The budget allocation for the National Tele Mental Health Programme was increased from Rs 65 crore to Rs 90 crore, a crucial step towards addressing the significant mental health burden in India.
