Regenerative farming and community empowerment are at the heart of PepsiCo India's agricultural efforts in Uttar Pradesh.

"We are focusing on regenerative farming to empower farmers"

Sustainable agriculture and farmer welfare are important to the company, and it recently showcased its work in Iglas and Hathras. Directly and indirectly, PepsiCo India collaborates with 27,000 farmers in 14 states, making it a leader in collaborative potato growing. In partnership with agri-input businesses, the organisation offers a full suite of services, such as premium seeds, guaranteed output buy-back, bank loans, and access to cutting-edge technology. By bolstering the farming ecosystem, these efforts hope to guarantee the viability of potato cultivation in the long run. A framework that fosters end-to-end strategic transformation with an emphasis on sustainability, Pep+ is at the foundation of PepsiCo India's agricultural approach. Improving water-use efficiency in crop irrigation, supporting regenerative farming techniques, and sustainably procuring vital components from local farmers are all part of the good agriculture that the company prioritises. The firm's unwavering support for agricultural production is evident in the fact that all of the potatoes used to make its chips come from farmers in India. In an exclusive interview with AgroSpectrum, Anukool Joshi, Director, Supply Chain Agro, PepsiCo India, discussed the company's current and future efforts to bolster the Indian agriculture sector.

PepsiCo India has tied up with Cropin to enhance the quantity and quality of the potato crop. Can you elaborate on that?

PepsiCo India’s positive agriculture strategy focuses on regenerative farming practices, empowering farming communities in the agricultural supply chain. It has established deep-rooted relationships with local farmers to encourage environmentally sustainable cultivation. Our partnership with Cropin, through the Lay's Smart Farm initiative, is a testament to this commitment.

How Women Are Reshaping India's Agri Value Chain

Despite comprising nearly 80 per cent of the agricultural workforce in several Indian states, participation of women has historically been concentrated at the labour end: sowing, weeding, harvesting, often as unpaid family workers with little say in what is grown, where it is sold, or at what price. That script is now being rewritten. Across the country, a shift is underway from women as farm labour to women as agripreneurs, enterprise managers, and value-chain decision-makers. What makes this shift different from earlier empowerment narratives is that it is increasingly driven, not by welfare alone, but by institutional design, market infrastructure and technology.

How India's Climate and Farm Economy Are Rewriting the Science of Single Malt Whisky

India's single malt whisky boom is often framed through the lens of global awards, premiumisation, and export ambition. But the real story is unfolding far from tasting rooms and distillery tours. It begins in the fields, where barley, long treated as a modest winter crop, is being quietly repositioned as the foundation of a high-value, globally competitive industry.
