THE EARLY YEARS of TVR's homegrown Speed Six engine were not shrouded with glory, but you have to applaud the small UK manufacturer's bravery when designing and building its own engine.

Despite a few (not inconsiderable) teething issues, the TVR's straight-six was one of the most memorable and, frankly, epic power units ever to grace a sports car. Thanks to the tireless development of specialists, they're now reliable when properly maintained.
