Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore played host to some top-class racing between Indian and international drivers
FOLLOWING A MONTH- long break, the Indian Racing Festival was resumed, this time at the Kari Motor Speedway, Coimbatore. The championship was led by the Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers, represented by Alistair Yoong (Malaysia), Fabienne Wohlwend (Liechtenstein), and Indians Ruhaan Alva and Nikhil Bohra, who have 155 points between them. Goa Aces JA Racing were in second place with 133 points, while Chennai Turbo Racers were in third place with 101 points. Meanwhile, in the LGB Formula 4 category, Tijil Rao (Dark Don Racing) led the championship with 49 points.
DAY ONE The first race of the Indian Racing League went the way of 35-year-old Jon Lancaster (UK, Chennai Turbo Riders). Neel Jani (Switzerland, Hyderabad Blackbirds) qualified in pole position and opened a gap that was close to five seconds over Lancaster. Mid-way through the race, however, a temporary gearbox issue with Jani’s car allowed Lancaster to take the lead and build up a massive eight-second lead. Although Jani recovered from the setback well and caught up with Lancaster, the British driver defended his position well and won the race. Sohil Shah (India, Goa Aces JA Racing) finished in third place.
